The authors of several systematic reviews have suggested that therapeutic modalities, such as cryotherapy, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation, are not effective. A closer examination of the treatment parameters used in these studies, however, reveals that the desired patient physiological responses are not achieved due to poor application technique. Another words, because the clinical practice is not addressing the intended treatment goal, the treatments are ineffective. Exposing the Limitations of Evidence-Based Practice in Therapeutic Modalities provides an overview of the appropriate treatment parameters for several commonly employed therapeudic modalities, including cryotherapy, electrical stimulation, and ultrasound. The DVD also looks at how clinicians can adjust treatment parameters to provide more consistent dosing between patients, (i.e., a standard physiological response for each patient).
