More than 34,000 U.S. military personnel have been injured in Iraq and Afghanistan. Research demonstrates that not only are people with disabilities at greater risk of developing health conditions associated with a sedentary lifestyle, they also face greater environmental barriers that impede access. A Mission of Inclusion-Providing Physical Activity Opportunities for Wounded Warriors explains that in order to meet the needs of injured military and their families in physical activity programming, a better understanding is required of the barriers that they face if they are to have an opportunity for full and inclusive participation.
